Chris Lynn Hails IPL as "Cricket on Steroids," Praises League's Global Impact

    Analysis by Third Umpire·February 11, 2026

Former Australian opener Chris Lynn has offered high praise for the Indian Premier League (IPL), emphatically calling it "cricket on steroids" and a fundamental driver of the game's global expansion. In an exclusive interview, Lynn, who enjoyed a decade-long career in the IPL representing franchises such as Deccan Chargers, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Mumbai Indians, highlighted the league's unparalleled standard of cricket.

Lynn underscored the IPL's role in nurturing talent, citing instances of 14-year-olds achieving centuries within the league, which he described as a truly special feat. He reflected on his own career, emphasizing that his extensive IPL journey held more significance for him than a shorter international career, further cementing the league's status as the backbone of modern T20 cricket.

Chris Lynn Hails IPL as "Cricket on Steroids," Praises League's Global Impact

“The IPL is a different beast altogether. It is cricket on steroids, in my opinion. I was fortunate enough to spend ten years in the IPL. I started at the Deccan Chargers under Darren Lehmann for two years, although I only played one game there. Then I had six amazing years at Kolkata Knight Riders, one of my favourite franchises I’ve been part of. After that, I spent two years at the Mumbai Indians, where again I only played one game. But that’s okay. The IPL has gone from strength to strength. When we talk about growing the game, the IPL is the backbone of that growth. The standard of cricket there is the best in the world. We’re now seeing 14-year-olds scoring hundreds. What better way is there to announce yourself than scoring an IPL hundred? To do that at 14 years of age is truly special.”

Mitchell Santner Shines as New Zealand Secure Dominant 10-Wicket Victory Over UAE

Mitchell Santner’s left-arm spin played a crucial role in putting the brakes on the UAE innings, as he masterfully controlled and suffocated the middle overs. The New Zealand captain used his experience well, cleverly varying his pace and lengths to keep the batters guessing. Santner finished with tidy figures of 1 for 23 from his four overs, conceding runs at an impressive economy of just 5.8, an effort that ensured the UAE never quite found momentum when it mattered most.
