I Built This for Myself

I was wasting hours every week. Reading articles that turned out to be clickbait. Chasing down claims that were incomplete or just wrong. Trying to verify whether a player was actually "in form" or if someone was just pushing a narrative.

The information existed, scattered across Cricbuzz, ESPNcricinfo, iplt20.com. It just took too long to piece together. So I built something that does the verification for me and shows the data alongside the claims. I built this for people like me — the ones who actually want to verify what they're reading. If a few others find it useful too, I'd be honored.

Fair warning: I'm a tail-ender trying to build a batting average here. Mistakes have been made, and will continue to be made 🫠. Working on it.

What I Actually Want

These are my frustrations. Maybe they're yours too. Maybe not.

I Want to Verify Claims
When I read that a player is "in form" or "struggling," I want to check the numbers myself. So every article here links to the underlying data. If I can't back it up, I don't publish it.
I Hate Ads
Autoplay videos, popups, layout shifts mid-scroll. I find them unbearable. So there are none here. I keep the site niche enough that I can pay for hosting myself.
I Want It Fast
I get impatient with slow pages. I've already done multiple major rewrites for performance: Next.js on Vercel, then Cloudflare Workers, then Railway, now Hetzner with Supabase. Still not as fast as I want. I'll keep hacking at it.
I Want Signal, Not Volume
I'd rather read one article that tells me something real than ten that repeat speculations. So that's what I try to make here. Fewer pieces, more substance.

Third Umpire: Why AI Writes the Articles

The articles on this site are written by Third Umpire, an AI system that analyzes IPL statistics and writes data-driven analysis I can verify.

How It Works

Third Umpire doesn't just rewrite headlines. Here's the process:

  1. It reads RSS feeds from cricket news sources — same ones you'd find on Google News
  2. It identifies whether there's actual substance — Is this backed by match data? Is there a verifiable claim to analyze? Or is it just speculation?
  3. It pulls the relevant IPL statistics — Recent form, head-to-head records, ground performance, whatever's needed to verify or contextualize the claim
  4. It writes data-driven analysis — Not a rewrite of the original article. An independent take based on what the numbers actually say
  5. It links to the underlying data — Every claim is backed by stats you can click through and verify yourself

What About Hallucinations?

Valid question. AI makes things up sometimes. Here's how I deal with it:

  • Third Umpire only uses data I already have — It doesn't pull stats from the internet. It uses the 800+ player records and 1,100+ match records I've already verified and stored
  • Every statistical claim links to the source — If it says a player has X runs in Y matches, you can click through and see the actual data
  • I review flagged articles — When something seems off or generates errors, I check it manually before it goes live

Other Sites Are Fine

Seriously. If Cricbuzz or ESPNcricinfo work for you, keep using them. They do things I can't and won't try to do.

Cricbuzz and ESPNcricinfo have live ball-by-ball commentary, breaking news alerts, and cover all cricket formats worldwide. They have actual editorial teams. I'm one person with a laptop and opinions — basically a night watchman who's overstayed his welcome.

The official iplt20.com has authoritative auction data, official announcements, and video highlights. I don't have any of that.

What I focus on is different: verifiable claims, no ads, and respecting your time. Use whatever combination of sites works for you.

For the Data Nerds

I'd love to find more people who care about IPL data the way I do. People who want to share analysis, argue about stats, and call out bad takes with actual numbers.

There's a Facebook group for that, and an Instagram page for updates. If that sounds like you, come join.
